President Rodrigo Duterte demanded resignations of Energy Regulatory Commission(ERC) officials after he got reports of alleged corruption in the agency.

During a press conference in Lima, Peru, the President expressed his anger to the commissioners of Energy Regulatory Commission after he received intelligence reports about anomalies in the ERC, including having too many consultants;how it’s officials deals with contracts and questionable appointments.

Duterte also said that cases would be filed against the unnamed ERC officials allegedly involved in corruption.

If the officials refused to resign, President Duterte will ask the lower house to withhold budget or abolish ERC and form another agency.

Last week, ERC bids & awards chair Francisco Villar, Jr committed suicide after being allegedly pressured by his superiors to approve contracts of procurements and hiring consultants without proper bidding and procedures.

The President already directed the authorities to probe the death of Villar Jr.

Last week, the consumer group Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas urged President Duterte to look into the Nov. 9 suicide of the ERC executive, believing that it could be linked to corruptions in the agency tasked with regulating power distribution utilities.
